This policy explains what personal information we collect through johnpattoncurandero.com, why we collect it, and what we do with it.
The person responsible for your information is John Patton, Tarapoto, Peru. For any question about this policy, or to exercise any of the rights described below, get in touch through our reservation enquiry form.
What we collect
When you send a reservation enquiry. Your name, email address, an optional expected arrival date, and whatever you write in your message.
When you submit feedback. Your name, email address, country, and your message. If you give us permission, we may publish your words, first name and country on our Reviews page. We will not publish anything you have not agreed to, and you can ask us to remove it at any time.
When you complete the medical questionnaire. This is the most sensitive information we hold, and we ask for it only from people preparing to attend a retreat or dieta. It includes your name, date of birth, passport number and issuing country, contact details, gender, and the name, relationship, country and phone number of an emergency contact. It also includes health information: your physical and psychological health history, any medications, family psychiatric history, experience with plant medicines or other substances, addiction history, allergies, dietary requirements, and anything you choose to tell us about traumatic experiences.
We ask for this because working with these medicines carries real physical and psychological risk, and because certain conditions and medications can interact dangerously with them. We cannot keep you safe without it.
When you book. If you pay a deposit or balance, the payment is handled by our payment provider, not by this website. We see enough to know your payment succeeded and what it was for. We never see or hold your full card details.
When you message us on WhatsApp or Telegram. Those conversations happen on their platforms, under their privacy terms, not ours. We keep what you send us there for as long as we need it to organise your participation. If you would rather not use them, email works equally well.
When you donate to the Elder’s Fund. Your name and the amount, handled the same way as any other payment.
Why we are allowed to hold it
For reservation enquiries and feedback messages, we rely on your consent, given when you send the form.
For the medical questionnaire, we rely on your explicit consent, given when you tick the agreement boxes at the end of the form. Health information is treated as a special category of personal data under UK and EU data protection law, and explicit consent is the basis on which we hold it.
You can withdraw your consent at any time through our reservation enquiry form. Withdrawing it does not affect anything done before you withdrew, and if you withdraw before a retreat we may not be able to accept you onto it — not as a penalty, but because we cannot run it safely without the information.
Who sees it
Your information is read by John Patton and, where relevant to your safety during a retreat, by the facilitators working alongside him. Nobody else.
If you attend an integration session with one of the independent practitioners listed on our Integration page, we share nothing with them. Anything you tell them is between you and them, under their own terms.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers, we do not add you to mailing lists, and we do not pass it to other organisations, except where the law requires it.
Our website is hosted by Cloudflare, and form submissions are delivered to us by email through Cloudflare’s own infrastructure — not a separate email company. We do not store submissions on the website or in any database connected to it.
Where it goes
We are based in Peru, and your information will be accessed there. If you are in the UK or the EU, this means your information is transferred outside your country. We take care to keep it secure wherever it is held, and we keep it to the minimum necessary.
How long we keep it
Reservation enquiries and feedback messages are kept for as long as needed to answer you, and then deleted.
Medical questionnaires are kept for 12 months after your retreat, so that we can respond properly if a health question arises afterwards. After that they are deleted. Published reviews stay on the site until you ask us to remove them. Records of payments are kept as long as Peruvian tax law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you what information we hold about you
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete your information
- stop using it, or restrict how we use it
- send you a copy in a portable format
- withdraw consent you have previously given
Get in touch through our reservation enquiry form and we will respond within one month. If you are in the UK or the EU and you think we have handled your information badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies and tracking
This site uses no analytics, no advertising trackers and no third-party fonts. We set no cookies that follow you between visits. Cloudflare may set a technical cookie needed to keep the site secure and available.
Security
Everything you send us travels over an encrypted connection. Where we hold documents in physical form, they are stored securely.
We should be honest that no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. If you would rather not send health information through a web form, email johnbartleypatton@gmail.com directly and we will arrange another way.
If something does go wrong and your information is exposed in a way likely to harm you, we will tell you, and we will tell the relevant authority where the law requires it.
Children
This site is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If the change is significant and we hold your information, we will tell you.
